ASPCA to Close Shelter for Pets Displaced by Sandy - Bed-Stuy Patch

ASPCA officials are getting ready to close a shelter for pets displaced by Sandy, and are asking owners to pick up their pets before they're relocated, the New York Times reports.

The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals has been using the?20,000-foot Bed-Stuy warehouse as a shelter for nearly 280 pets since Nov. 17.

About half of the dogs and cats have be reunited with their owners and officials expect about 30 more to be reunited this weekend, the Times said.

ASPCA officials will work with local animal rescue organizations to find foster or permanent homes for any pets not picked up, according to the paper.

Those missing pets can visit the shelter at 1508 Herkimer Street, call the Hurricane Sandy Pet Hotline at 347 573 1561,?or visit the?Animal Care & Control of NYC?s lost pets website, where there are photos of unclaimed pets at the shelter.
